Stop Republicans from Sneaking in Their Sketchy Budget

  • Week of August 6, 2017
House Republicans have devised a toxic budget whose sole purpose is to hand tax breaks to billionaires on the backs of seniors and hard working Americans. Instead of investing in good-paying jobs, the Republican budget would stack the deck even further against working families.

- House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi

Paul Ryan, Mitch McConnell and friends are at it again. By using a tactic known as reconciliation, they are pushing to pass a budget bill for the next fiscal year without any bi-partisanship discussion. Their sketchy budget slashes funding for roads, MediCaid, public schools, disability benefits, food stamps, and social security (a policy Trump vowed to keep). It cuts the EPA by 31%. The funding cut from programs that protect minority and struggling populations will support big tax cuts for the rich, a $929 billion increase in military spending, and an anti-immigrant task force and border wall.

All-of-us must say no to a budget that increases our national debt, puts our economy behind, and hurts working Americans.

Here’s how:

  1. Check your facts with the NY Times’ breakdown of the Trump Administration’s budget proposal.
  2. Use RiseStronger’s comprehensive script to call your Representative
  3. We will focus on other items in the budget next week. For this week, use this template to send a letter urging your Representatives to oppose the Make America Secure Appropriations Act, which is being voted on this week.
