Support Relief Efforts in Houston

  • Week of September 3, 2017

The devastating truth is that it will take time, and a whole lot of support for Texas to recover from Hurricane Harvey. While Trump does a do-over and tries to appear compassionate by taking selfies with hurricane survivors and making self-congratulatory statements like “We saw a lot of happiness...They’re really happy with what’s going on”, his own spending bill would slash disaster relief funds to communities like those in Texas which need them most. Why? So that Trump can build his stupid border wall.

Before Harvey hit, Trump had plans underway to cut money from the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) disaster relief account to help fund a $1.6 billion down payment for the wall. This is part of a larger spending bill that is scheduled to be considered by the House of Representatives when they return from recess next week. We obviously can’t let that happen.

All-of-us need to come together to support the people and communities that have been impacted by Hurricane Harvey. The immediate priority is getting funding to those that are on the ground helping.

Here’s how:

  1. Chip in to support some of these charities that are helping the people of Houston.

  2. Tell your representative that protecting and recovering the communities devastated by Hurricane Harvey is much more important than investing in a wasteful symbol of xenophobia and hate. Use the contact information and script below.
