Support the Movement to Ditch The Electoral College

  • Week of December 18, 2016

It isn’t every day that Wall-of-Us agrees with The Donald, but he was right on the money (the Russian ruble, to be precise) when he tweeted:

During his first post-election interview, Trump reiterated his support for the popular vote, saying, "I would rather see it where you went with simple votes. You know, you get 100 million votes, and somebody else gets 90 million votes, and you win. There’s a reason for doing this. Because it brings all the states into play."

We know, Donald. We would have rather seen it happen that way, too.

Hang on to your resistance berets, because we also agree with Newt Gingrich! In his 2014 letter expressing his strong endorsement of the National Popular Vote, Gingrich explained, “America would be better served by a presidential electoral process that treated citizens across the country equally.”

So true, Newt.

It’s refreshing to find common ground on the Electoral College, an antiquated system with racist roots. Oh, and not to mention that in two of the past five elections, the Electoral College elected a Republican president against the will of the majority of the American people.

All-of-us must make sure this never happens again.

Here's how:

Ask your state legislators to support the National Popular Vote bill, a decade-long and bipartisan effort to get rid of the Electoral College without a constitutional amendment. This website explains the bill, shows which states have enacted it, and allows you locate and contact your state legislator directly.

Calling is often more effective than email, so find your state legislator here. You can use these sample scripts.
