In September, Trump repealed the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, which gave undocumented immigrants brought to the United States by their families temporary employment authorization and permission - temporary protected status (TPS) - to stay in the U.S.
Trump’s decision was a policy and political nightmare. DACA not only transformed the lives of close to a million young immigrants in the U.S., it has improved our economy and led to the creation of new jobs and businesses - 5% of DACA recipients have started their own business. According to even the most conservative of outlets, more Americans than not support DACA and giving its recipients a chance to remain here legally.
That’s why it’s so important to pass the bi-partisan DREAM Act, which would make DACA the law and grant undocumented youth a path to citizenship. The bill is now gaining momentum, with its best chance of passage as an add-on to the Omnibus Spending bill, which must be passed by December 8th to fund the federal government. Each day that Congress delays, more entrepreneurs, and young talent are in danger of being deported. All-of-Us must tell our Congress members to turn Trump’s nightmare into a DREAM.
