“Politicians who sit in their gilded House and Senate seats, funded by the NRA, telling us nothing could have been done to prevent this -- we call BS! … They say tougher guns laws do not decrease gun violence -- we call BS! ...If you agree, register to vote!” -Emma Gonzalez, a senior at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School
This week, all-of-us have been cheering on the survivors at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School as they repeatedly schooled the NRA and the politicians it has bought. During the CNN town hall last Wednesday these young leaders made NRA-funded Senator Marco Rubio and NRA Spokeswoman Dana Loesch sweat bullets, and they made us proud. But these students are smart, and they know that they must vote for change this November.
The data is clear, pledging to vote dramatically increases voter turnout (and it was also President Obama’s secret sauce in 2012). That’s why this week Wall-of-Us has been busy scheming and teaming up with Florida High School Democrats, Florida College Democrats, and Florida Young Democrats to launch Vote for Your Life, a campaign to get progressive youth in Florida to the polls. These youth organizations will lead the effort to get students across campuses in Florida to publically take (on a website which we are building and will share soon) this pledge:
“I call BS and I will vote for my life on November 6, 2018!”
This campaign is as ambitious as our young progressive leaders and they need seed funding to begin their youth voter pledge drive this week. All-of-us must support Vote for Your Life and help these students call BS on the NRA and the politicians who do their bidding.
