Take The Oath on Inauguration Day

  • Week of January 16, 2017

It’s true. This Friday, January 20th, Donald Trump will take the Oath of Office. But don’t worry--that is not how our story will end. On January 20th and beyond all-of-us will take and live our own oath to “protect, preserve, and defend the Constitution.”

Take The Oath was created by a group of film, television and theater producers, directors and actors: Dustin Lance Black, Bruce Cohen, Tara Smith, Kaily Smith Westbrook, and Schele Williams. This is not a dress rehearsal--they are asking everyone to join wall-of-us in Taking the Oath on Inauguration Day. But that’s just the beginning. We must each write the post-inauguration chapters of our own stories by living The Oath and taking action.

And collectively, that’s called a movement.

I ask for the movement to continue. Because it’s not about personal gain, not about ego, not about power...it’s about the “us’s” out there.
— Harvey Milk, 1978

Our story will not be about one man. It will be about a movement of all-of-us.

Now swear:

1. Raise your right hand.

2. Say these words (and mean them): "I do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute my role as an American, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.”

3. Share your Oath. #OathTaken/#TakeTheOath/#WallofUs. If you need a little inspiration, here are some social media examples

4. Watch this video to see Karen Olivo and fellow citizens taking the Oath.

5. #LiveTheOath by taking action every week on wall-of-us. If you haven't already, subscribe right now to receive our emails with calls to action.
