Trump’s attacks have inspired so many minority groups to seek political power and, thankfully, Muslims are no exception.
Over 90 American Muslims -- mostly Democrats, mostly young, and mostly new to politics are running this year. The flurry of candidacies makes for a lot of potential firsts. Any one of four Muslim women — Nadia Hashimi, 40, in Maryland; Sameena Mustafa, 47, in Illinois; or Fayrouz Saad, 34, and Rashida Tlaib, 41, in Michigan — could be the first Muslim woman in Congress. Tlaib called President Trump's election a "bat signal" for many women who decided to run for office. "Not just Muslim women, but women from all backgrounds, it was a call to say we have to act," she said.
