Mueller's probe of contacts between the Trump campaign and Russians is coming increasingly and perilously close to Trump's inner circle. This week, Trump’s personal fixer Michael Cohen claimed that Trump knew in advance about the June 2016 meeting in Trump Tower in which Russians were expected to offer his campaign dirt on Hillary Clinton -- and he is willing to make that assertion to special counsel Robert Mueller. Trump has repeatedly trash-talked the investigation on the public stage, most recently with his bro Vladimir Putin.
There are still bipartisan bills before Congress that would offer some protection and/or judicial recourse if Trump fires Mueller. Yet Congressional leadership still refuses to allow Democrats to bring these bills to the floor. House Democrats have recently taken extra steps to force Republicans to hold a hearing on a measure that would prevent President Donald Trump from unilaterally removing special counsel Robert Mueller. House uber conservatives responded by filing articles of impeachment of Rod Rosenstein this week.
Um, wrong move. This isn’t working for us, guys.
Come November, these jokers will pay a political price for their negligence and their complicity. Meanwhile, it’s up to all-of-us to make MoCs ante up now to protect Mueller’s investigation, and our democracy.
1 Call your MoC, especially if you have a Republican MoC, and use this script.
“Trump has been increasingly attacking Special Counsel Robert Mueller. I am deeply concerned about a constitutional crisis that will result if he tries to fire the special counsel. I am calling to urge Representative [ ] to allow a vote and vote for legislation that protects Robert Mueller and his investigation, now. The future of our democracy depends on it.”
