SNAP Back to Protect Families

  • Week of August 12, 2018

Thanks to your calls, the Senate passed a bipartisan Farm Bill in June that protects SNAP (food stamps). This came after the U.S. House of Representatives passed their destructive Farm Bill, which takes away SNAP from millions of families and enforces strict work requirements. Now the Congressional Conference Committee needs to work out the differences between the two bills. Only one version — the Senate bill — protects SNAP and lifts up our families and our economy.

All-of-us must protect SNAP in the Farm Bill.

Here’s how:

1 Sign the letter from asking Congress to protect SNAP in the Farm Bill

2 Call your MoCs and ask them to endorse the Senate version of the bill and protect SNAP. Use this script:

Hello Representative [INSERT LAST NAME], My name is ____ and I live in __(city)___, in your Congressional District. I am calling with deep concerns about the proposed Farm Bill in the House. Their bill restricts eligibility and mandates stricter work requirements for recipients of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. SNAP is a crucial lifeline that supports 1 in 8 workers in our state and is a vital resource for those who are unable to work due to high barriers to employment like disability, homelessness status, or old age. If the House version of the legislation passes, hunger and food security will increase for thousands of people in our district. [If relevant, insert personal story of how SNAP benefits you and your loved ones.]

We all need healthy food for our loved ones and communities to thrive. I urge you to endorse the Senate’s version of the Farm Bill.
