Celebrate Our Women Veterans Elected to Congress

  • Week of November 11, 2018

As this Forbes article describes, 2018 was the year of the woman candidate. On this Veteran’s day we will start by celebrating the triumphs of our women veteran candidates.

The overwhelming majority of this year’s female veteran candidates ran as Democrats, and most of them won! In the House of Representatives, the new class of veterans includes these three women, and all of them are Democrats who flipped seats.

  • Chrissy Houlahan is an Air Force veteran and beat Republican Greg McCauley in Pennsylvania’s 6th Congressional District.

  • Mikie Sherrill, a Democrat and former Navy helicopter pilot won in New Jersey’s 11th Congressional District. Sherill, a first time candidate, was inspired to run for office by the “lack of respect” for women by the Trump administration.

  • Elaine Luria, a 20-year Navy veteran unseated Republican Scott Taylor in Virginia’s 2nd district.

On this Veteran’s Day, all-of-us must celebrate these women.
