"Okay ladies, now let's get in formation,
Prove to me you got some coordination."
--Beyoncé, from ‘Formation’
On Wednesday, Alabama governor Kay Ivey signed into law the most restrictive abortion bill in the country, saying it is “powerful testament to Alabamians’ deeply held belief that every life is precious and that every life is a sacred gift from God." Notwithstanding of precious life, the near full ban would have no exceptions for cases of rape or incest.
In the last year alone 15 states have adopted 27 extreme anti-abortion restrictions, and lawmakers make no attempt to disguise their less pious motivations: “It is important that we pass this statewide abortion ban legislation and begin a long overdue effort to directly challenge Roe v. Wade,” Alabama Rep. Lt. Gov. Will Ainsworth (Rep).
Banning abortion is an attack on women’s freedom, autonomy, mobility, sexuality and self-determination. Ladies, it’s time to get in formation and get on the offensive.
1 Let’s do what we can right now to help women who need abortion services. Donate to abortion funds:
To focus on Alabama, donate directly to the Yellowhammer Fund.
For Ohio, donate to Women Have Options.
For Mississippi, donate to the Mississippi Reproductive Freedom Fund.
For Georgia, donate to the Women In Need Fund.
2 Then speak up loudly (men, you too!). Call your state representatives to tell them you want abortion to be free and legal in your state, and ask whether they support laws that seek to roll back Roe v. Wade.
