Unplug to Recharge

Let’s face it. We all are virtually attached to our devices, ever online and on-call. Responding to an email or text immediately has become the norm, even when it’s not an emergency (and so few things truly are). While technology does give us access to vast power and information (like Wall-of-Us!), all-of us could stand to take a day off. Our friend Tiffany Shlain has written an amazing book called “24/6: The Power of Unplugging One Day a Week”, documenting her transformative experience putting down the device one day a week. All-of-us should give it a try this week.

Here’s how:

1 Start small. Unplug the phone, put down the laptop, put on your email autoresponder for a few hours every evening this week or next.

2 Or level up and jump into a one-day technology shabbat this week (yes, 24 full, consecutive hours), a practice coined by Tiffany. Bonus: you’ll have undistracted time to read her book “24/6” when your device is off!

3 Make a plan for IRL connection with friends. Some ideas: take a walk, go to dinner, or meet for a yoga class.
