Last week was eventful, to say the least. The shortest ever tenure as National Security Advisor came to an end with Michael Flynn's resignation over illegal contact with the Russians; Andy Pudzer withdrew as Labor secretary nominee, and the President used a dinner table in Mar-a-Lago as a situation room during a North Korean missile test.
The House Oversight Committee sent a couple wrist-slappy letters about breaches of security protocol and ethics rules. They hope we will quietly go away, but we won't. We need to keep at it because right now foreign governments may know more (and be doing more) about the administration's relationship with Russia than our own government. We need to ratchet up the pressure to take these threats to our security and our democracy seriously. Flynn's resignation is just the beginning of the story. We need answers.
The Senate Foreign Relations Committee has the power to order an independent investigation into Russia's ties with Trump, Flynn and others in Trump's team. Despite headlines suggesting Republicans are taking this seriously, the Committee's chairman, Bob Corker (R-TN), has said he's "not yet ready to embrace" the idea of an investigation. Well, we are ready! All-of-us must turn up the heat on our Members of Congress.
1. Call, email or visit your MoC (when they are back home this week) and tell them it is time to set aside politics and party in favor of protecting our country and that you expect them to join bi-partisan support for a full, independent investigation into ties between Russia, Trump and his cronies. Tell them they must commit to fully investigating Flynn’s ties to the Russian government, and the White House’s response.
